The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) Task Group on Performance-Based Design will soon begin developing the second edition of the SFPE Engineering Guide to Performance-Based Fire Protection Analysis and Design of Buildings. This guide, first published in 2000, provides a process for conducting a performance-based design, whether to meet a performance-based code, as an equivalency to a prescriptive-based code, or to meet a stakeholder's goals which are not addressed in a code. The guide is referenced in the performance options of NFPA 101, NFPA 5000, and the ICC Performance Code for Buildings and Facilities.
The Task Group is soliciting proposed changes to the current edition of the guide. Suggested changes should include recommended additions, revisions or deletions, and the basis for those recommendations, and should be sent to Morgan Hurley at Mhurley@sfpe.org, fax to +1 301-718-2242, or via mail to SFPE Headquarters by July 31, 2004.
